a family affair
After tasting success with their first restaurant, Vital Dining, the brother-sister Williams trio landed an opportunity to open another eatery. FreeTown Café was born in a month with the mission to do more than serve great food. Brother Kwame Williams along with his sisters Kanika and Nataki Williams designed the café to nourish the growing Newark community, satisfying the body, mind and spirit. Honoring the Jamaican town, Accompong, where the Maroons defeated the English and gained freedom from slavery, the café’s name represents tenacity, courage, and ingenuity; necessities for independent and entrepreneurial success.
Known for a passion and dedication to farm-fresh cuisine, Kwame takes this mindset to the world of coffee along with a menu built around fresh, natural flavors, with ample choices for people who have dietary preferences. Whether pescetarian, paleo, vegan or vegetarian, Freetown is a place where we can all come to be satisfied.
The founders of the Freetown Café seek to establish and inspire ordinary individuals to recognize that healthy food can be mouthwatering and provide benefits for everyone. Offering more than just your average “cup of Joe”, you can come to Freetown for an island experience. People return again and again for our delectable food, beautiful presentation, cozy atmosphere and friendly service. Come join us, and taste healthy and delicious for yourself!
